Goals for 2019

Fresh off the heels of the new year, I though this would be a perfect opportunity to share my goals for 2019. Last year I published a post all about my goals for 2018, and I'm happy to report that I feel as though I accomplished all of them. I truly believe that taking the time to properly write down my goals and put them out into the universe was a huge contributing factor to my success in completing my aspirations, so I would love to do the same thing for 2019.

Take An Active Role in Money Management

I've always been pretty good with money. I prioritize savings and am comfortable living beneath my means. That being said, although I've been successful in building my savings over the years, my knowledge of what to do investment-wise with said savings is basically zero. I'm lucky in that Brian works in finance and will invest on my behalf, but if I learned anything from my career in Funeral Services is that shit can hit the fan real quick, and you should always know how to do things yourself. This year I really want to take charge of my money and move from passive saver to an active investor - even if it's just in a small way. Money can be an intimidating subject, and I definitely have let my fear of making the wrong move hold me back. Baby steps can lead to real change, so this year I'm excited (and very nervous) to start taking those small steps to better understand money management.

Seriously Declutter My Living Space

Those of you who live in Toronto - or in a condo anywhere - can relate: it's amazing how quickly that stuff can accumulate in your space! Even though I'm good at donating items regularly, I still live in a space with way too much stuff. Now that we've been living in this same condo for three years, the excess stuff that creeps in is seriously affecting the energy of the space and I've reached my breaking point. My goal is to start the year off with a huge declutter - one that I may even hire a professional to help me with. From there, I want to make a conscious effort to live minimally and really think about the stuff that we bring into our space. A cluttered space leads to a cluttered mind, and in 2019 I'm looking forward to a bit more simplicity.

Create Meaningful Content

I feel as though my goals relating to my content last year were all about pushing myself creatively. In a stark contrast, this year I really want to get back to basics. More meaningful blog posts, real-time photo sharing, videos that add value - rather than just showing you what I buy. As the world of social media grows and becomes more saturated, I think we're all ready for something that feels more relatable, honest and real - I know that I am, anyways. Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to be pink-hunting my face off because it genuinely brings me joy. I just want to mix in a lot more real-time content, more diary-style blog posts and non-consumerism based videos.

Drink More Water, Eat More Vegetables

How cliché to have a health-related goal, right? Last year I focused on fitness and finally starting taking Soul Cycle classes regularly. I never felt better. This year I want to continue with prioritizing fitness and add-on a simple health goal: drink more water, and eat more vegetables. A simple step, but I think that this will yield better results for me, rather than unrealistically overhauling my entire diet.

What do you guys think? Do you find it helpful to write out your goals for a new year? What are some goals that you have for 2019? Let me know!

  1. Hey Joelle!

I definitely find it more helpful to write out my New Year's resolutions -- I'm so serious about them that I made a two-tiered resolution system (with both vague guidelines and specific, measurable one month projects). I can relate to "create meaningful content" so much; at the tail end of 2018 I decided to get rid of consumerism-based posts entirely and write about my crazy adventures and thoughts on society instead. It's been so fulfilling and made me realize why I blog in the first place :)

I stumbled upon your blog through your Florida Keys vlog and wanted to say hi! I'm headed to the Keys/Islamorada myself this month, and I definitely got in the island mood from your video.

Happy New Year! Wishing you the best in 2019.

  2. I work in investments and can't believe how many woman don't want to learn... kudos to you for taking the first step! It's always scary but very empowering!

I think that there's also a step towards slow fashion and shopping your stash instead of consumerism that we're used to seeing- good luck with your declutter!

  3. Yes to decluttering, drinking more water and eating more vegetables. I'm still craving spaghetti for lunch, but onwards and upwards because I'm bringing myself to a martial arts work out tonight.
