OOTD - 9 to 5 Office Style

Office Appropriate Outfit for Fal

As most of you already know, on top of blogging I also work a 9 to 5 day job in the Financial District of Toronto, Ontario. When I first moved into a more traditional office environment it was an adjustment to learn how to dress both office appropriate and stylish. After much trial and error, I have found my holy grail day-job clothing item that carries me through all seasons and allows me to be comfortable and confident: enter the shift dress. I love the simplicity that a shift dress brings to office attire, as well as the versatility - switch up your blazers, cardigans, sweaters and tights with the same dress and you have an entirely different outfit! For this particular day, I opted to pair my shift dress with a light trench coat and some classic black pumps.  Come the wintertime and this dress can easily transition with a pair of opaque tights and a thick cardigan. While most are working for the weekend, this girl is working to keep up her collection of shoes, handbags and shift dresses.

Okay, let's talk office bags.  I'm always confused on my morning walk into the office when I see women juggling an army of bags with them. Although I tend to pack light since I buy my lunch most days (guilty habit), on the days that I do have lots to carry I opt for an oversized tote. Not only does having one bag sharpen up your whole outfit, it also is much easier for personal organization. I'm planning on doing a few more of these office outfit posts, and will be happy to share my bag options for days when I have more to bring with me - let me know if that is something that you would like to see!

Instead of letting the rat race get my wardrobe down, I like to lean on one item of clothing that is both office  appropriate and in line with my personal style.  Do you rely on an item of clothing  for your work apparel? What does your office wardrobe look like?  Let me know!

  1. Shift dresses are so versatile! You master them well. I am always lugging multiple bags with me to the office - purse, lunch, gym! There isn't enough space. lol

  2. Hi Joëlle - I would love to see any "lots of stuff" kinds of bags you could suggest. I'm totally one of those women carrying a multitude of bags...especially on the days when I've got Zumba after work. Thanks!

  4. This is an amazing outfit and you look stunning in it. I do however think it’s way too short to be worn to work. I work at a manger at one of the companies at the Toronto Financial District and this dress, all tho stunning on you, is not appropriate for a professional corporate world.
