OOTD - When Your World Is Gray, Think Pink

One of my favourite Ben Harper songs is titled 'She's Only Happy In The Sun' and it's a statement that rings true for my life, and my mood.  I definitely find the winter months to be a huge struggle, not so much for the cold but for the lack of sunlight. The weather in Toronto was particularly dark and gloomy this weekend, and just as I found my energy levels slipping to an all time low I looked no further than my closet to turn my mood around. Enter a pink fuzzy jacket paired with burgundy mini dress; an unexpected colour pairing, but so fun on a gloomy day.  I was having so much fun twirling in my bright wardrobe choices that I completely forgot how miserable it was outside! I may only be happy in the sun, but I've also learned that it's possible to create your own sunshine.

Dress - Aritzia, Coat & Boots - Zara

This pink fuzzy coat is a great score from the bi-annual Zara sale.  Although I need another jacket like I need a hole in the head, I honestly couldn't pass this one up - how fun is it? Plus this fun pink coat rang up to just over $20 so to me it was a no brainer. I'm fully expecting this piece to take me into the spring months, while also keeping me cozy for winter.

What do you guys think of this colour pairing? Are you also affected by the sun cycles? How have you learned to cope? Let me know!

    1. I definitely tend to hibernate too, Eleni. Case in point, tonight: totally had plans to go out after work and run errands. Ended up on the couch in a sweatsuit with wine instead. LOL

  3. This look is so cute!! love your coat, such a bargain! I definitely get affected by the winter months. My mood is usually at it's all time lowest, I take vitamin D everyday which actually helps because when I forget it, I feel the worst. Also hate to say it but eating less sugary treats and working out more helps too. the sugar helps when I eat it and for about an hour then the crash comes and it doubles the moodiness haha.
    hope that helps!

    1. Thank you so much for the helpful tips, Naghmeh! I definitely have a diet that mostly consists of sugar, so I really need to get ahold of that. Exercise is also something I'm slowly easing into, I have a few classes lined up in the next couple of weeks. Fingers crossed this will help with my seasonal depression!

  4. I'm definitely affected by the lack of sun! Over the summer, I used to go to the gym every day after work, but now you're lucky if I go to the gym once a week! I thrive off sunlight and these muggy, dark winter days are doing me no good lol I love the bright pop of pink that your outfit has. Bright colors should be part of the quintessential winter outfit, makes the weather much more bearable!

    1. Isn't winter brutal? As much as I can appreciate living in a corner of the world with seasons, winter does come with its challenges. I love your thoughts on mandatory colours in the winter - how cool would it be to see a sea of colourful coats instead of just your standard black?!

  6. I need to take some tips out of your colour book... I need to spread my fashion wings and add some spice to my monochrome style.

    Great look!

  9. I can't deal with the gloominess of winter!!! Though I've missed the last couple of years now, I try to book a trip south every January or February to help break up the winter. Another way I get through the cold, dark months is to take Vitamin D pills every day - sunshine in a bottle!

    1. A trip is such a great cure for the winter blues! I wish that we were going somewhere this winter, but it will have to wait until Spring - although maybe just a weekend to Miami some much-needed vitamin D. I'm definitely going to be more diligent with the Vitamin D pills like you suggested, thank you for the tip! xo

  12. I agree with you. It's so hard to have energy when it's just clouds and cold weather. I love how you paired the different shades of pink together! Unless it's a neutral color like gray or something, I usually have a hard time using the same color in different shades in one outfit. I also love your lip color. Great photos :)

    1. Thank you so much Kelly! I'm with you as well is the monochrome neutrals look, but since the only colour I really wear is pink I decided to give it a shot! So glad that you like how this outfit turned out! xo

  13. So first and foremost, I like the way you think! Injecting some colour into your life helps fight the winter blues, or greys, for sure! Secondly, you need to tell me where you took these pictures because I'm heading to the same location as soon as I get back!

  14. Loving this colour combo! Great way to brighten up a gloomy day.
I find the winter especially tough as well, mostly due to the lack of daylight. I try to make sure I'm absolutely out of the office before it gets dark. I prefer to leave home in the dark, to be leaving work when it looks like bedtime :P

    1. It's so true Kris- daylight is key! Although I often work late, I do try to get out and go for a solid hour walk on my lunch break. It really helps to keep my mood up! xo
