My Spring Wardrobe Essentials

Happy Monday Noobs!  This past weekend was one of sunny skies and warmer temperatures - Spring is here! This is the first time in what seems like forever that I finally feel like ditching the winter coats and heavy knits, in favour of light cotton and short sleeves.  What better time to share with you the items in my closet that I have deemed Spring essentials - a few key pieces that will take you comfortably through Spring and well into the beginning of Summer.  Read on for item details, and why I think that they are so essential to a Spring wardrobe.

1. Distressed Boyfriend Jeans

The trends of denim comes full circle, moving away from the ultra-skinnies of days past to a more casual, baggy look.  The 'Boyfriend' jean is everywhere, and this Noob couldn't be happier - they're slightly baggy fit and cuffed bottoms make them an extremely flattering choice for all body types.  Bonus points for getting a distressed version, adding more to their casual feel.  You can dress them up with a smart blazer and a pair of heels, or throw them on for a day of lounging.  The trick, as with most jeans, is finding a brand that fits best - not too loose around the waist, not too baggy in the crotch.  I have found success in The Gap Sexy Boyfriend Jean (pictured above), but have also heard good things about those from Old Navy, as well as Joe Fresh.  Keep looking until you find your perfect pair - your Spring wardrobe will thank you.

2. Light Weight Blanket Scarf

As us Canadians know, Spring can bring on unpredictable weather.  Even the warmest of days can lead to a cool night.  A blanket scarf is the perfect solution - it's massive width gives volume and texture to your outfit when tied as a scarf, and it can also double as a wrap in a sudden temperature drop.  The Aritzia Coquette Scarf is an incredible option, but also be on the lookout at your local Zara for the perfect blanket scarf.

3. Light Coloured Booties

I've sung the praises of nude toeless booties on my last outfit post, but really any nude bootie is a great option for spring and leads to an easy wardrobe transition.  I just picked up these Plover booties from Steve Madden, and love their soft suede exterior and casual feel.  Store your thick, dark boots away for next winter, and feel refreshed in a pair of nude booties.

4. Striped Tee Shirt

I am such a sucker for a striped shirt.  I think it may be the most versatile piece of clothing out there - rivalling black pants.  A striped shirt is an incredible easy way to add some dimension in your outfit, and instantly makes anyone appear more put together.  The one pictured above is from H&M, but you can find these guys anywhere.

That's it for my Spring wardrobe essentials!  Let me know what your essentials are.

Happy Monday,

-Joëlle
