Green Smoothie With The Kenmore Pro Blender

I have a confession to make: I'm not a healthy eater.  As much as I strive to be the person who opts for salads over a burger, or is conscious of getting their fruits and vegetables into their diet, I'm not. Recently Brian and I both noticed that we were constantly feeling sluggish, and had very little energy throughout the day and had a big wake-up call where our diets are concerned.  Something had to be done so that we were eating healthier.

Enter the green smoothie.  Brian promptly got to work developing a smoothie that not only packed in a ton of vitamin-rich greens but also tasted great. When he finally perfected the recipe and asked me to try his green smoothie, I was skeptical - I'm really not a fan of 'healthy tasting' drinks, especially when they have that earthy taste that comes along with anything green. Thankfully, this green smoothie tastes more like green apple than it does kale, and I can honestly say that after weeks of drinking it, the taste is starting to grow on me.  I've also noticed an improvement in my energy levels throughout the day, which has been a great change! The green smoothie is a welcome addition to our diet, and I highly recommend it for anyone who's struggling with their fruits and vegetable intake.

To make a green smoothie, you need a great blender. The Kenmore Pro Heavy Duty Professional Blender from Sears Canada is an incredible option when you need heavy-duty blending.  With 6 sharp stainless steel blades, 11 speeds and the ability to heat-up what you're making this blender is no joke and has been a rival to our Vitamix at a fraction of the price at $149.97 CDN. Making our green smoothie in the Kenmore Pro means that I don't have to worry about thick pieces of greens sneaking their way into the smoothie, and don't have to think twice about tossing a few ice cubes into the mix to cool it down - it blends everything smoothly.  I also really appreciate how easy this blender is to clean - just rinse out with some soapy water, leave out to dry and you're all set.  Read on for my green smoothie recipe, and to see how you could WIN your own Kenmore Pro Heavy Duty Professional Blender from Sears Canada!

Ingredients

  • 1 handful of kale - stalks removed and coarsely chopped
  • 1 handful of baby spinach
  • 1/3 of an English cucumber
  • 1 green apple, cut into quarters (you don't need to remove the seeds or core)
  • 1/3 of a pineapple, core removed
  • 1/4 cup of water

Method

Place all ingredients in your Kenmore Pro Blender, with the lightest at the bottom and the heaviest at the top (see photo below.) Once you have placed your water in, gently turn up the speed, from low to the highest setting and let it blend for 45 seconds. I usually use the stopper that's included with the blender to gently and safely push down on any part of the smoothie mixture that's not blending to make sure that everything is being blended smoothly.  Once everything is blended, pour out into cups and enjoy!

This recipe makes two large cups of green smoothie.  If Brian isn't home, I like to save a green smoothie in the fridge for the next day.
